About Me

I’m a college professor/writer and I love both teaching and writing.

But my lifelong passion is music, and that’s what I’ve decided this blog will be about.

 Mostly.

Wonder what they play on there?”

  1. Do you teach writing or literature? I taught one semester of first-year composition when I was a grad student. It was horrible and I begged to be allowed to just tutor for the rest of my time. I’ve always wished that I had stuck with teaching, given myself more time to thicken my skin against the apathy of the students.

    • Hi 1WriteWay, I actually teach in the social sciences. I don’t think I could teach writing – those folks have the toughest job on campus! I’m sure it can be very rewarding, but it must require a great deal of patience. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! 🙂

      • Oh, what do you teach in the social sciences. I was a “mentor” for a couple of online social work classes for a few years, and then an instructor for one social work class. Seems like if I want to teach social work, I could find teaching jobs, but I’m not a social worker any more so … 🙂 I agree that teaching writing is pretty tough, especially to first-year students. It’s disheartening to see how badly students write these days, even at the graduate level.

  2. I have taught mainly criminology and sociology, as well as some psychology courses. I really enjoy it and it’s been a great career for me. I taught full time for eight years, then I went part-time so that I could devote more time to my writing, which has also been very fulfilling. I feel very fortunate and grateful to have been able to do what I love for many years.

I started this blog because everyone says that you need one if you are a writer, but then I realized – I’ve been writing for nearly twenty years without all this “promo” junk, and I don’t really want to do it. So I changed the focus of my blog to something that was fun for me – talking about music and what it has meant to me in my life. A musical memoir, so to speak, with some concert reviews and such thrown in for good measure.

Many best wishes to you! 🙂

  3. I was a high school Chemistry teacher for about five years, but I refrained from breaking bad.

    • Thank goodness you never broke bad, Matt, lol! My post tomorrow is going to be about Albert Einstein, based on Kansas’ “Portrait”. Different science, of course, but I hope you find it interesting. 🙂

  4. Really enjoyed reading your blog, I hope you are enjoying our.

    Best wishes Sheshe and Camilla

  11. I am a fan of what Bob Seeger once called “that good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll” and that Tom Petty practices. Unfortunately it is passing out of existence. Glad to meet you.

  12. Let me urge you to join WordPress’s campaign for internet neutrality. Thanks.
